Getting to La Couvertoirade from Montpellier
This ride, accompanied by some French music, is truly epic. It lasts just under an hour and takes you through the picturesque Occitania region.
Take the A75 northbound, enjoying panoramic views of the spectacular Causse du Larzac, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As you progress, the vast landscapes and rolling hills envelop you in an atmosphere of serenity and natural beauty.
To get to the village, you must cross a barrier that gives you access to the parking lot.
Remember to pay for parking before leaving. Then with the ticket you will be able to go through the barrier to exit the parking lot.

The descent on foot to the village of Navacelles is an exciting and revealing option, although it requires to be well equipped. This path of about 10 km will take you through spectacular views and impressive reliefs, ideal for lovers of hiking. You can also descend by bike or car, although during the spring and summer, vehicular access is restricted due to limited parking capacity and vertiginous roads, designed more for small vehicles.
However, for your convenience, there is a free bus service that will facilitate your access to this picturesque corner of the world.

And best of all, at the end of the tour, you will have the opportunity to taste different varieties of Roquefort, learning to appreciate its complex flavors and textures. Did you know that the King of France Charles VI loved Roquefort cheese. And it is said that in the 15th century this monarch, also known as Charles the Well-Beloved, granted a monopoly on the ripening of Roquefort cheese to the people of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon, a move that helped protect and promote this product. Since then, Roquefort has been known as the “cheese of kings and popes” due to its popularity among the upper echelons of society.

At La Couvertoirade you can taste everything from the world famous Roquefort cheese, matured in the depths of the local cellars, to the succulent lamb specialties of the Causse, accompanied by the robust wines of the region.
But I want to stop in particular at the Creperie Montes Cafe, with an incredible atmosphere of medieval farmhouse, in line with the atmosphere of the village, with arches and stone walls that automatically transports you to the time of the Templars. But the experience does not end there. In this creperie you will be able to eat delicious crepes made over a wood fire that I recommend to accompany, as always, with a cup of cider and that the whole family will enjoy equally.
Don’t worry, within the walls you will also find a handful of other gastronomic options that won’t disappoint you either. Enjoy a meal at one of the town’s charming terraces, where the medieval atmosphere and picturesque views perfectly complement an unforgettable culinary experience.
