I usually use Rentalcars to compare and book rental cars worldwide. I highly recommend them, especially for their outstanding cancellation policy, which allows you to cancel most bookings up to 48 hours in advance at no charge.

Between its stone houses, cobblestone streets and its spectacular natural environment, Mourèze envelops you in an authentic atmosphere, almost frozen in time. Without rushing, you can enjoy its rural charm before or after venturing into the Cirque de Mourèze, its greatest natural treasure.
The dolomitique cirque of Mourèze
Undoubtedly, the greatest attraction of Mourèze, this charming little town in the south of France, is to walk through the impressive Cirque dolomitique de Mourèze, a natural landscape that seems to be taken from another planet. This geological cirque is a marvel of rock formations of whimsical shapes, created by erosion over millennia. An adventure awaits you and your family in an environment that looks like something out of a fantasy movie.
For children, this tour is a real adventure. The trails that cross the circus are full of narrow passages between the rocks, ascents and descents that will make children feel like real explorers.
The stone formations, with their curious shapes, invite you to imagine figures and characters, making the walk an unforgettable experience. I assure you that you will have a great time climbing and discovering hidden nooks and crannies among the rocks!
More about the dolomitic Cirque de Mouzère
The Mouzère dolomitic cirque was formed approximately 160 million years ago from the remains of a warm, shallow sea. What you see today is the result of natural erosion over millennia, which has created a unique setting of rock formations that look like something out of a fairy tale.
Since Neolithic times, man has inhabited this unique environment. In fact, in the Courtinels park, inside the cirque, a small settlement was established, protected by a natural enclosure that served as a shelter and food source for the first inhabitants. Later, in the Middle Ages, the area developed as part of the trade routes connecting the Hérault valley with the Orb mountains.
The name Mourèze has ancient origins, possibly pre-Indo-European, and derives from “murr”, meaning “museau” (snout). In Occitan, mourre refers to a hill shaped like a snout, which in this case perfectly describes the formations surrounding the village.
Hiking is the best way to discover the Cirque de Mourèze. There are several trails of different lengths and levels of difficulty, so you can choose the one that best suits you and your family’s pace. Here are some of the most recommended options.

The Belvédère short trail
If you prefer a shorter hike or if you are with small children, this tour is ideal. You go up to the Belvédère de la Vierge, a spectacular viewpoint from where you have a panoramic view of the entire Cirque and the Hérault plain.
It is a perfect place to take family photos and simply enjoy the silence and the immensity of the landscape. The climb is short but a bit steep in some sections, so be patient if you go with the kids, the reward at the end is worth it!

Visit the Church of Sainte Marie de Mourèze
The Église Sainte-Marie de Mourèze is an architectural jewel dating from the 12th century, although it was first mentioned in 990. Gothic in style and remodeled several times between the 13th and 15th centuries, it stands on a platform between the old castle and the village.
Fragments of the original Romanesque construction can still be seen along its façade, including arches and buttresses that bear witness to its rich history. Its interior is simple but captivating, with a central nave 11 meters wide and an imposing 12.5-meter choir, where the influence of several architectural periods is evident.
The most striking feature of the church is its serene atmosphere and its orientation towards the east, in perfect harmony with the natural environment of Mourèze. Although some of its original features have disappeared, such as the neighboring castle, the church remains a palpable testimony to the medieval history of the village.
It is also a perfect place for a quiet break in the middle of the tour of Mourèze, ideal for appreciating both its historical value and its simple and authentic beauty.
Visit Charles Dulduc’s workshop
One of the most authentic and enriching experiences you can enjoy in Mourèze is to visit the workshop of Charles Duluc, a master potter who specializes in the poterie raku technique.
Charles is a beloved figure in the village, and his workshop is a place where tradition and creativity merge. With his friendliness and friendliness, Charles welcomes travelers from all over the world, from hikers touring the area on foot, to tourists arriving from Australia, Japan, Spain and beyond.
Exploring his workshop is much more than a simple visit, it is an immersion in French craft traditions. In addition, he is always ready to welcome you with good humor, despite the language barriers, making the experience a warm and welcoming moment.
To buy one of his creations is to take a little piece of the soul of Mourèze, and this stop will undoubtedly enrich your visit to the village.
📍 11 Rue du Cirque. His workshop is to the right of the church.
Le Lac de Salagou
Located just 12 km from Mourèze, in the heart of the Hérault and Languedoc, the Lac du Salagou is an incredible site not to be missed in the south of France. This true natural jewel uniquely combines arid landscapes with a vast expanse of crystal clear water, creating a spectacular contrast. In addition, the lake is surrounded by remarkable Mediterranean biodiversity, making it an ideal place for nature lovers, hiking and outdoor activities.
